George Walker Bush (born July 6, 1946) is the forty-third President of the United States of America. He served as the 43rd Governor of Texas from 1995 to 2000.

Bush’s Early Life

Bush was born on July 6th, 1946 (70 years ago) in New Haven, Connecticut. He was the first child of George Herbert Walker Bush and his wife Barbara Pierce Bush. His father was a World War II veteran who became a United States Congressman after returning home and making a very successful career in the oil industry. At the time of Bush’s birth, his father was preparing to be elected United States Senator from Texas and so he sent the little family to the Western territory by train.

Soon after, the family moved to a farm in the little town of Leakey. They remained there until they moved again back to Midland, where the father was running his oil business. George W. Bush attended public school there and had a very active childhood, at one point breaking his leg while playing baseball but never missing a game. At age four he began attending Kindergarten but had trouble socializing with other children because he was too busy talking about his brave father who fought in a war.

Study

Bush was a good student and enjoyed running, football and baseball; however, he had a very bad time at a school dance when his parents sent him to the bathroom and he saw an older woman in the mirror kissing another man. He was confused by this and did not understand what it meant until he found out that she had married his father. This caused great affection between Bush’s parents as well as Bush.

He graduated from Yale in 1973 with a B.A History and graduated again in 1976, receiving his law degree (Juris Doctorate) from Yale Law School. Bush went on to become a lawyer in Texas and was known for being very friendly with people as well as having connections high up in the state government. Bush was elected to the House of Representatives in 1978 and later became the Texas Republican Party’s finance chairman.

Family and personal life

Bush is a member of a very prominent family. His grandfather, Prescott Bush, was a U.S. Senator from Connecticut; his father George H.W. Bush was president of the United States, and his brother Jeb Bush is governor of Florida. He married Laura Welch in 1977 and they have two children together: George W., who is known as “43” after the presidency that he served in, and John Ellis “Jebby” who was born on February 11th, 1971. George W. Bush was born prematurely and had to go through a long recovery process, so the President was not with his family for a few weeks after the birth of Jebby. The two sons got along well, however, and the President’s mother described them as being like “brothers.”

Bush is an avid reader and possible expert on world politics. He is also very friendly with several famous people, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, who he appointed head of California’s state government when his term of service as governor ended in 2003; Michael Jackson, and Oprah Winfrey. Bush has said that he believes time is the most important thing in life.

Military career

George W. Bush was in the Air Force Reserve from 1968 to 1974, while he attended Yale University, and he served in the Texas Air National Guard from 1968 to 1974; during his term in the national guard, he flew fighter jets.

Political career

In 1977 he entered the office of Houston real estate developer George P. Bush and his father, who was a wealthy man, offered to pay for his education at Yale. But Bush had to choose between his studies and his financial obligation to his family, so he chose the latter. He graduated from Yale University in 1973 with a B.A in History and was able to complete the degree again in 1976 under the G.I Bill of Rights. In January 1976, Bush married Laura Welch, who was also his classmate at Yale and they went on to have two children: George W., born in July 1946 (43 years ago), and Jebbie born on February 11th, 1971 (35 years ago).

Doing Business

Bush was very active in business, especially in real estate. He was president of the Texas Rangers from 1989 to 1994 and was also the majority owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team during his term as Governor. He is also president of the George Bush Foundation and is chairman of The Bush Institute, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to issues dealing with education and global leadership.

Early on in his life, the young billionaire began to show interest in politics, although his father forbade him from becoming involved with the political parties; however, he had other plans in mind and worked out how to join them anyway. Bush attended Yale University and became a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He was taught by conservative Professor Leo Ribuffo and he managed to get into Yale Law School despite his father’s wishes.

Bush remained a member of the House for 16 years and was constantly re-elected (even defeating Democrat Kent Rolston with 60,000 votes in 1992). He was frequently involved in controversy but never had any serious problems. In 1985, he became involved in an investigation after intervening on behalf of United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) member James Akins, who had been accused by his employer Ernst & Young of leaking secret information to Bush. Akins responded by claiming that Bush sent him confidential information and strong-armed him into giving up evidence that would have helped clear his name.

Become famous in Politics

Bush became involved in politics at an early age. Being very close friends with his father when he was a child. However, it took him a long time to be able to run for political office; he first ran for public office when he was 40 years old. During the 1994 congressional elections where he ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives for Texas’s Seventh Congressional District. He later became the President of the Republican Governors Association in 1995. He elected chairman of the National Republican Party by its members in 1997.

In 1998 he was invited by his father to run for President of the United States. He took up this offer with much enthusiasm. It is said that his campaign had a budget 30 times larger than that which H. Ross Perot had used in his campaign in 1992. Bush was elected governor of Texas in 1994. Which was where he became a known figure with the mainstream public. He appeared on CNN’s Larry King Live on May 6th of the same year.

Professional background

As Governor of Texas, Bush experienced many problems and scandals dealing with corruption, sex, and murder. He arranged for the execution of 342 criminals over his term as governor. Which is more than any other governor in history. He also voted to restrict abortion twice. Bush is known to be a very religious person. Even claims that he has never had an argument with God.

Bush became the first Republican candidate to become President in 1988. He elected in 2000 and began his term in January 2001. In December, he signed the U.S. Congress’s bill into law that would increase taxes on tobacco products by an estimated 83 cents a pack. Also deals with child safety in regards to cigarette lighters. Having cigarettes advertised on television at certain times of the day. Bush has had a very controversial time in office, with many problems arising. This is most evident in his involvement in the September 11th terrorist attacks of 2001. As well as the War on Terror and the Iraq War that followed.
